On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the 7th online meeting of the Network for Combating Gender-Based Violence—established in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as part of the “TIME TO TALK II” of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – HOH
The keynote speaker at the meeting was Ms. Vasiliki Artinopoulou, Professor of Criminology at Panteion University and an expert on issues of domestic violence. Ms. Artinopoulou, as head of the Committee for the Prevention of Violence against Children and the Response to Juvenile Delinquency, shared her experience and the guidelines of the national strategy in this specific sector with the members of the Network.
Her presentation was titled “The Prevention of Domestic Violence as a Key Pillar of the National Strategy on Juvenile Violence and Delinquency” and focused on how the national strategy was developed, the priorities that have been set, and the new measures being promoted to protect children and their families.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of prevention, the early detection of incidents of violence, and close cooperation between schools, social services, support structures, and police and judicial authorities. The need to establish a stable framework for intervention that would strengthen both the protection of minors and the support of frontline professionals was also emphasized.
The participating professionals and representatives of organizations had the opportunity to share their experiences from daily practice, discuss challenges arising during the implementation of the planned measures, and exchange suggestions for more effective management of cases of domestic violence and juvenile delinquency. The meeting once again highlighted the importance of networking and cross-sectoral collaboration in preventing and addressing violence, as well as the need for continuous training and professional development for professionals working in this field.
The project “DEVELOPMENT OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT AND COMBAT GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE “TIME TO TALK II” is being implemented under the “Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2021–2027” Program, under the priority “Social Inclusion and Combating Poverty (ESF+).” The project is co-financed by the European Social Fund and is part of the Municipality of Drama’s Sustainable Urban Development Strategy.
