“TIME TO TALK II” at the “ANAVIOSIS” Rehabilitation Center
Friday, Apr 17

The scientific team of the “TIME TO TALK II” project continues to actively implement targeted information and awareness-raising interventions on issues of gender-based and domestic violence.
In this context, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, a training session was held at the “Anaviosis,” attended by 24 healthcare professionals, including nursing staff, physical therapists, social workers, and other employees who are in direct daily contact with patients. During the session, the phenomena of gender-based and domestic violence were analyzed, with particular emphasis on understanding them as serious human rights violations, as well as critical public health issues with broad social implications. The presentation focused on the current institutional framework and the obligations of healthcare professionals, as derived from Greek legislation and international conventions. It also highlighted their role as key first-point-of-contact figures, who are called upon to recognize signs of abuse, ensure conditions of safety and trust, and appropriately refer cases to the relevant services.
At the same time, indicative signs of abuse—both physical and behavioral—were observed, as well as instances of neglect or financial exploitation, with particular attention paid to the needs and specific circumstances of vulnerable groups, such as older adults and people with disabilities.
As part of the session, basic steps for responding to incidents of violence were also presented, prioritizing patient safety and providing staff with a practical guide for properly managing such situations. The actions required were highlighted, from the initial moment of suspicion and recognition of signs, through to safe referral and connecting individuals with appropriate support services.
The workshop concluded by providing participants with a methodological framework that ensures appropriate intervention, the protection of human rights, and the prevention of secondary victimization of individuals experiencing violence.

The project “DEVELOPMENT OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT AND COMBAT GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE “TIME TO TALK II” is being implemented under the “Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2021–2027” Program, under the priority “Social Inclusion and Combating Poverty (ESF+).” The project is co-financed by the European Social Fund and is part of the Municipality of Drama’s Sustainable Urban Development Strategy.
