On Monday, September 29, 2025, the activities of the “TIME TO TALK II” project for the new school year began with two educational workshops held at the 3rd and 5th High School of Dram
A total of 97 students and 12 teachers actively participated, asking numerous questions and highlighting their need for knowledge and information about gender-based violence. The workshops were conducted by the Dean of the School of Social, Political, and Economic Sciences of the Democritus University of Thrace, Ms. Sevasti Hatzifotiou, in collaboration with the program’s project team, with the participation of the President of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality , Ms. Aliki Tsiamoura. Their presence enhanced the discussion, reassuring the children that their questions and concerns were being taken seriously. During the workshops, the students shared their fears about how to react when they witness incidents of violence, even if they themselves have not experienced such situations. Through discussion and guidance from the trainers, it was emphasized that active communication and a willingness to talk are essential tools for supporting and protecting everyone.
Emphasis was also placed on the historical position of women and the role of patriarchy in today’s society, while questions were raised about invisible forms of violence, such as emotional pressure, threats, psychological abuse, and verbal abuse. The open discussion and active participation of the children highlighted the need for information and education, while confirming that the prevention of violence begins at school and is built through a culture of equality, respect, and the courage to raise difficult issues.
The project “DEVELOPMENT OF PREVENTION AND COMBAT ACTIONS AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE – TIME TO TALK II”, implemented by the Ladies Union of Drama– H.O.H., is carried out under the program “Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2021–2027”, under the priority axis “Social Inclusion and Combating Poverty (ESF+)”.
